AI Engineer - Model Training & Deployment

Full timeMunich, GermanyImmediate

About mkind

mkind is an early-stage robotics startup on a mission to automate the hardest, most painful manual industrial tasks. We build fully flexible, intelligent robotic work cells for surface finishing, welding, and coating. We are a small, focused team moving fast and building things that matter in the physical world.

About the Role

We are looking for a Junior AI Engineer to join our ML team and help build and deploy the models behind our core robotics product. You will start with a strong focus on model development and training, working closely with the ML and robotics team on our core technical roadmap, with the opportunity to grow into deployment and MLOps work as our stack matures.

This is an entry-level engineering role with real, hands-on impact from day one. You will train and iterate on the deep learning models that make our robotic work cells perceive and act in real industrial environments, and support getting those models running in customer environments.

What You'll Do

  • Train and implement deep learning models as part of our core product
  • Iterate on model architecture and training pipelines to improve real-world performance
  • Support deployment of trained models to customer environments
  • Work closely with the ML and robotics team on our core technical roadmap

What We're Looking For

  • Proficiency in Python and PyTorch
  • Experience with Docker
  • Comfort working in a Linux / command-line environment
  • Hands-on experience training deep learning models (academic, thesis, or industry projects)
  • Strong analytical mindset and a habit of rigorous experimentation
  • Enthusiasm for working on physical systems and seeing AI deployed in the real world
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Slurm or other cluster job scheduling
  • ONNX or other model export/interop tools
  • Cloud deployment experience
  • Background in computer vision or robotics
  • Familiarity with data versioning tools (e.g. DVC)
  • Interest in edge computing / on-device deployment

Compensation & Location

  • Location: Munich, Germany (on-site)
  • Equity participation as an early team member

Join us in building the hardware and software foundation stack that will foster the next generation of automation in industrial manufacturing.
